Palio postponed: green flag hoisted

For the second time this year, following the Palio in July, the Palio of August 16 has also been postponed. At 3:43 PM, after a meeting in the city hall between the mayor, the captains, and the Deputati della Festa, the green flag was hoisted in the pointed arch windows of the Palazzo Pubblico: the Palio has been postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Around 1:30 PM, it began to rain in Piazza del Campo. Initially a short and not particularly heavy shower, but after about 20 minutes the rain returned, and heavy enough to postpone everything until at least tomorrow.

After consultation, the city council deemed it impossible to hold the Corteo Storico and the Palio itself. A postponement that is effectively the fifth in the last six Palios (July 4, 2024, August 17, 2024, July 3, 2025, July 3, 2026, and August 17, 2026).
