Tonight’s participants screened

Tonight at 7.30 pm the Palio of July 2, 2023 will be driven. We would like to give an overview of the 10 participants. Who is the favorite? Who are the outsiders? And who are the unknowns?

Favorites:

Selva with Tittia on August 2022 winner, Violenta Da Clodia, is the favorite of choice. It’s up to him to take a fifth win in a row and a third at Selva.

Onda probably drew the second strongest horse with Viso D’Angelo. For fantino Brigante, it is the chance to take another victory after his victory in 2017 for the same Onda. Rival Torre will also be followed with a lot of attention.

Torre has Gingillo on Zio Frac, the winner of the July 2022 Palio. An excellent opportunity for him to take a fourth win after his last in 2018 for Lupa. Of course they also have to look at rival Onda with more than one eye.

Ousiders:

Chiocciola has been waiting for another victory since 1999. With Anda e Bola they have drawn a promising horse that seems to have a good click with Scompiglio. It is also an important opportunity for him as he is waiting for another victory since 2017.

Drago has Tempesta, who won the Straordinario in 2018, on Ungaros. This horse has been ascribed a chance to win the Palio for years. Drago doesn’t have to win after their victory in 2022 but everything is allowed. Another chance for Tempesta to show himself after a bad 2022.

Giraffa has the horse that was talked about most in the spring in his stable. Abbasantesa could be a surprise if it can find the peace between the ropes as they had in the first days. An opportunity for Tamurè to reinforce his debut from last year.

Unknowns:

Aquila is the nonna (district that has not won the longest) and has been waiting for a victory since 1992. With Veranu, they have a horse that impressed during the tratta. They put their fate in the hands of Scangeo who can prove himself. Do they surprise?

Istrice tried his horse in the background during the prove. It is not a debutant and seems very calm between the ropes. It’s up to Ares to turn this calm into a good course.

Nicchio also has a horse with one Palio on the counter; Astoriux. Turbine can keep the horse calm at the start and is a good starter. If he’s gone well, anything is possible…

Tartuca will mainly have an eye for rival Chiocciola. Una Per Tutti already rode the Palio 3 times but doesn’t seem like a winner…or can Grandine change that.
