Cappotti
Cappotto literally means winter coat. They say cappotto when a contrada wins both the Palio of July 2 and that of August 16. Then you are facing a very warm winter (after all, you have won twice).
Winning a cappotto is very difficult and therefore very popular with all contrada. In the history of the Palio, eleven contrada (Bruco, Chiocciola, Civetta, Drago, Giraffa, Lupa, Nicchio, Onda, Tartuca, Torre and Valdimontone) have won a total of 17 cappotti.
Giraffa is the only one who has won a cappotto three times. Oca, the contrada with the most wins, never won one, just like Aquila, Istrice, Leocorno, Pantera and Selva.
Tartuca in 1933 and Lupa in 2016 are the only two contrada who won a cappotto with the same fantino and the same horse.
