Palio, August 16, 2025: Valdimontone triumphs

The Contrada del Valdimontone won the August 2025 Palio thanks to a convincing gallop by Giuseppe Zedde, better known as Gingillo, and Anda and Bola. Pre-race predictions were confirmed, making the Servi duo among the favorites.

It was a long start, lasting almost 50 minutes, before Onda decided to enter the ropes as the rincorsa. When the ropes dropped, Valdimontone, Pantera, and Leocorno were the fastest, but it was Gingillo, Anda, and Bola who took the lead and held on, despite attacks from Diodoro and Tittia, who did everything they could to catch up. Dino Pes also rode a brilliant Palio, riding Viso d’Angelo in Pantera, who fought with all his talent behind Valdimontone.

Only one crash occurred, that of Tambani, riding Diamante Grigio at Bruco, in the second San Martino. It was a hard-fought and beautiful race, which showed that choosing a strong field of participants paid off.

And now it’s time for celebration in Valdimontone, where, after a 13-year wait, another victory was achieved. The previous one dates back to August 2012, when Scompiglio won with Lo Specialista. This is Valdimontone’s 45th official victory; the contrada attributes itself 49. Gingillo, who last won in 2018 for Lupa, wins his fourth.
