Onda, Aquila, and Oca celebrate after the assignment of the horses

Today, Saturday, June 29, the allocation of horses to the ten contradas participating in the Palio di Siena on July 2, 2026, dedicated to the Madonna di Provenzano, began at 1:15 PM. The contradas and their horses were drawn by lottery under the watchful eye of the Mayor of Siena, Nicoletta Fabio.

In a field of participants featuring three horses that have won the Palio before (Anda e Bola, Benitos, and Diodoro), five that have run at least one Palio (Diosu de Campida, Volpino, Viso d’Angelo, Canarinu, and Entu de P. Ulpu), and two debutants (Eberardo and Donrodrigo), the members of Onda cheer at the arrival of Anda e Bola, those of the Contrada dell’Aquila at that of Diodoro, and the contradaioli of the Contrada dell’Oca at Benitos. So we already see them as the three favorites of this Palio.

In the course of the afternoon, the contrade will select their jockeys who will run the first trial of the Palio di Siena on July 2, 2026, this evening at 19:45.
