Palio of July 3, 2025, the Contrada dell’Oca triumphs
The Nobile Contrada dell’Oca won the Palio of July 3, 2025. A magnificent race for Giovanni Atzeni, better known as Tittia, on “his” Diodoro, a debuting horse on the tufo, who nevertheless showed all his power. A lightning start for the duo from Fontebranda, who immediately conquered the first place, which was never in question.
This was the order of access to the ropes:
Lupa – Antonio Mula detto Shardana e Ares Elce
Selva – Andrea Sanna detto Virgola e Zenis
Bruco – Jonatan Bartoletti detto Scompiglio e Viso d’Angelo
Chiocciola – Giosuè Carboni detto Carburo e Tale e Quale
Oca – Giovanni Atzeni detto Tittia e Diodoro
Istrice – Enrico Bruschelli detto Bellocchio e Dorotea Dimmonia
Pantera – Francesco Caria detto Tremendo e Arestetulesu
Drago – Michel Putzu detto Spago e Diosu de Campeda
Tartuca – Carlo Sanna detto Brigante e Zio Frac
(R.) Valdimontone – Giuseppe Zedde detto Gingillo e Comancio
This starting order seemed to be good for a quick start. There were several favourable starting moments right away, but Gingillo, who had to give the start with Valdimontone, did not think it was the right moment.
The nervousness increased, the mossiere had to let everyone go outside three times and also once as a precaution let the rope fall, when Selva’s horse Zenis tried to jump over it. It took half an hour to start.
Selva and Oca started first, Drago was turned but the mossiere did not flinch and approved the start. Tittia and Diodoro immediately take a powerful lead. Behind him Selva and Valdimontone try, but do not get any closer.
At the back we note a few falls: Lupa in the first San Martino, Tartuca and Drago in the second San Martino, Chiocciola in the second Casato and Selva and Istrice in the third San Martino.
Riccardo Manganelli’s Drappellone, dedicated to the Madonna of Provenzano and to the fifth centenary of the Sienese Academy of the Intronati, will now be on display at the Contrada of Fontebranda.
It is their 67th official victory; for Tittia it is the 11th!
