Lupa, Oca, Bruco, Valdimontone and Pantera drawn for the Palio of 2 July 2025

Lupa, Oca, Bruco, Valdimontone and Pantera are the Contrade drawn yesterday evening, Sunday 25 May, for the Palio of 2 July 2025. They will be added to the five others who are entitled to participate in the Palio: Tartuca, Chiocciola, Drago, Selva and Istrice.

There will therefore be two rival pairs on the Piazza: Chiocciola – Tartuca, Istrice – Lupa.

Torre drew Lupa, Tartuca Oca, Oca, Bruco, Chiocciola Valdimontone and Lupa finally Pantera.

The draw for the Palio di Siena of July 2, 2025 began at 7:00 p.m. in a hall of the Palazzo Comunale, in the presence of the Mayor of Siena, Nicoletta Fabio, who was to chair the meeting, and the captains of the seventeen Contrade, in accordance with the articles in Chapter III (entitled “Preparatory draw and the starter”) of the “Regulations for the Palio”.

From the windows on the first floor of the Palazzo Pubblico overlooking the Piazza del Campo, the five drawn flags of the Contrade were displayed in order, next to the five legitimate participants in the Palio. This completed the series of ten scheduled for the Palio di Siena on 2 July 2025.

The flags of the remaining five non-drawn Contrade were then displayed on the second floor of the Palazzo Pubblico, next to the disqualified Aquila and Torre, which had been hanging in those last two places since this morning. These 7 were hung as follows: Nicchio, Onda, Civetta, Giraffa and Leocorno (and finally Aquila and Torre).

After the drawing, the ten Captains of the Contrade who will participate in the Palio of July 2, 2025, in accordance with article 30 of the aforementioned regulations, have communicated to the City Council, in the person of Mayor Fabio, the proposal to nominate Renato Bircolotti as Mossiere for the Palio of July. According to article 31 of the “Regulations for the Palio”, the nomination lies with the City Council itself, which will have to ratify the proposal in the City Council.
